Casey - TTT 23: Gregor Clegane

Well this certainly can't end well, now can it?

TTT 23: Gregor Clegane

A far fetch from Daenerys, we have the "Mountain that Rides": Gregor Clegane.
(Shocking! Casey and Zach like antagonists! Wowzers.)

A huge ball of rage, murder and tool of the Lannisters, this monster pillages and burns the riverlands and makes short of any that oppose him.
Here he is, at what is something of his untimely end...and a new beginning.

Part of me wants to tell people "spoilers!", but really; Everyone should read these books. They're fantastic.

(original sketch below)

** I know that I'm not going to get the colors done tonight, so here's a WIP of the orginal sketch, with inks.
  More soon!

TTT 22 - Daenerys Targaryen (and Drogon)

Zach's the one who got me started on 'A Song of Ice and Fire' and he really created a monster. I was just going to watch the series but he told me to read the books first - about a hundred pages into 'Game of Thrones' I was completely and totally hooked. A few weeks of OCD marathon reading sessions later and I'd read up through 'A Dance of Dragons.' For those of you who haven't dove in yet; seriously, wow, I really can't oversell this series - it's far more intelligent, nuanced and expansive than I could have possibly imagined. I finally got around to watching the show and it's a blast but I'm gonna echo Zach's advice and suggest that if you haven't done so already (and have a few thousand hours to kill), you check out the books first.

I think we're gonna try doing a series with the next few posts, first up is Daenerys Targaryen.

Awww, ain't that cute? Drogon likes to snuggle.

Week 22: Daenerys Targaryen (Stormborn)

We here at Tag Team Tuesdays are huge fans of "A song of Fire and Ice" (aka: Game of thrones).

So, what better way to dive in than Daenerys Targaryen, mother of dragons, Khalessi, blood of my blood (esquire). Infact, I enjoy the character so much, that I couldn't finalize an image, this above is the twelfth incarnation, and the last to get inked.

It's hard to portray Daenerys without her dragons. Even in Dothraki garb, she's still a powerful image, but let's be honest, it's just damn fun to draw dragons.  So much fun that I could have drawn a ton of images, but that wasn't in the cards (this time).

*update! Finished Image.

I have a sneaky feeling we'll be doing more S.o.F.a.I (game of thrones) soon.

The HBO series is AMAZING, but if you haven't read the books, you're really missing out. GRRM does a great job at building worlds and characters.

Still working on the BG (as it's plain here)

more posted later. Just wanted to get this up before I have to leave town.

TTT 21: George Washington.

Ahoy!

In honor of election day, we decided to do our favorite presidents.

Mine was George Washington; leader, hero, rebel scum.

George has a lot of character for a such a stoic guy. He's chopped down cherry trees (allegedly) and helped forge our nation.

It was a toss up between him and Roosevelt (Bull Moose party!!)  for me, but in the end, the election made me think of a George Washington quote:

"The alternate domination of one faction over another, sharpened by the spirit of revenge natural to party dissention, which in different ages & countries has perpetrated the most horrid enormities, is itself a frightful despotism. But this leads at length to a more formal and permanent despotism. The disorders & miseries, which result, gradually incline the minds of men to seek security & repose in the absolute power of an Individual: and sooner or later the chief of some prevailing faction more able or more fortunate than his competitors, turns this disposition to the purposes of his own elevation, on the ruins of Public Liberty."

These ring true to me during an election year as each passing cycle becomes more and more vitriolic.

 here's Georgey w/o colors.

TTT: 21 - President Taft

Election Day! And in honor of that event, we're doing Presidents this week.

Ahh, William Howard Taft, where do I begin? The walrus mustache? The 300 lb, 6'2" frame? The episode where said girthy physique got stuck in a bathtub on his inauguration day and had to be dislodged by four (underpaid) attendants - yes, let's go with that.

Other Taft related factoids to impress your friends and neighbors:

- Didja know that after his presidency, Taft served as the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court from 1921 to 1930.

- Anders Zorn painted Taft's official presidential portrait. Don't know who Zorn is or anything about his exquisite use of a limited palette? You're missing out, go read up over here - BAM. Also, HERE!

- The Secret Service's codename for him was "Pruney."

- After the aforementioned "bathtub incident", Taft had a special bathtub made up that was large enough to fit four normal sized men OR one awesome sized President Taft.
